The bright, chilly sunshine offers a deceptive light in the late afternoons. The days hovering around Winter Solstice end quickly, presenting a rapid change in the visibility of surrounding landscapes. Although I knew I had a small window of light to guide me home, I had to pause to take in the deep majesty of this moment. A black iron fence between the lane and grazing sheep within. A 'giraffe tree' a solid sentry overlooking the flock. The picturesque 16th-Century Wickham Manor perched upon a distant hill. Winter trees presenting their skeletal frame. And, of course, the colourful journey of our setting sun.
